What is a virtual appraisal?

sphere2In terms of this resource we are defining a virtual appraisal as an appraisal meeting which takes place over a virtual platform or software, e.g. Skype, and is not conducted in a face to face physical environment.

The GMC guidance Having an annual whole practice appraisal states:

It is your responsibility to have an annual appraisal that:

  • is carried out with the Appraiser and appraisee in the same room, or by video link, so that each is visible to the other

There are a wide range of virtual meeting platforms and software available, and many people may now be familiar with them since the coronavirus pandemic. This resource will provide guidance on different platforms in the further sections.
