Genitourinary Problem in the Menopause

Overview: Reading the title, you may feel that this is not relevant to you. However, take a look at the morning triage list and count up how many calls are regarding UTI, Cystitis, Thrush again. Many of these callers are in their post-reproductive years. And many falls are precipitated by confusion secondary to urinary tract infection, as well as admissions for delirium or sepsis. If these result in a fractured neck of femur, the one-year survival rate has been quoted to be as low as 50%. So, being aware of the implications of oestrogen deficiency, and practising proactive preventative medicine can save us a lot of time in the long-run and save the NHS a lot of money!

Learning outcomes: This recorded webinar discusses the implications of oestrogen deficiency and examines how practising proactive preventative medicine can save a lot of time in the long-run.

HRT and the Menopause

Overview: Women live on average a third of their lives in the post-reproductive years. Lack of oestrogen has profound effects on mental and physical well-being, impacting on an individual’s health as well as their ability to work and to maintain relationships. This in turn creates problems that cost NHS money as well as taking up a significant amount of our time in primary care.

Awareness of these potential problems can allow us to give women the relevant information to make informed choices, benefiting the individual patient and saving ourselves time in the future.

Learning outcomes: In this recorded webinar we introduce guidelines to allow you to make informed choices about which HRT preparation is suitable for which patient, a summary of the NICE advice, and try to put breast cancer risk into context.
